CLOUDCYCLE14 Workshop at the INFORMATIK 2014

We proudly announce the “CLOUDCYCLE14 Workshop”, which will be co-located with the INFORMATIK 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany.

The workshop’s aim is to advance the state of the art in operation and management of cloud service. The automatic deployment and management of portable and secure cloud-services is still an open research issue. As well as ensuring security and compliance throughout the complete lifecycle of a cloud-service. Based on this, Cloud Computing is a platform that enables Big Data applications. The workshop will provide a forum to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in the area of Cloud Computing.

Presentation explaining TOSCA and OpenTOSCA published on Slideshare

A presentation about TOSCA and OpenTOSCA has been published on slideshare.net. The presentation describes the fundamental concepts of TOSCA and explain its realization in the Open Source CloudCycle runtime implementation “OpenTOSCA”.

TOSCA Modeling Tool “Winery” accepted as full Eclipse Project

Winery has been accepted as full Eclipse project and was presented at the EclipseCon Europe. In addition, Winery has been presented in the context of a Demonstration paper at the 11th International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC 2013).

Further Demonstrations, Publications, and Presentations on Winery can be found here.

OpenTOSCA Demonstration at the 11th International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC 2013)

OpenTOSCA, the TOSCA runtime developed at the University of Stuttgart in the scope of the CloudCycle project, has been presented as part of a Demonstration paper at the 11th International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC 2013).

Further Demonstrations, Publications, and Presentations on OpenTOSCA/Winery.

TOSCA v1.0 has become official OASIS Standard

On November 24th 2013 the Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications (TOSCA) version 1.0 was ratified as an official OASIS standard. In the final membership vote, where 47 yes-votes would have been required, TOSCA got 70 yes-votes from OASIS member organizations which reflects a broad support within the OASIS membership.

The official TOSCA v1.0 specification can be found at:

Public TOSCA interop demo presented at EuroCloud 2013 conference

At this year’s EuroCloud conference which was held on October 15th and 16th in Luxembourg, members of the OASIS TOSCA TC presented a first public interoperability demo based on the OASIS TOSCA standard. Based on an example use case, the exchange and the processing of a Cloud service described using the TOSCA standard between tools and platforms of IBM, Fujitsu, HP, Huawei, SAP, Vnomic and Zenoss was shown.

Publication on Cloud Computing Automation: Integrating USDL and TOSCA

The objective of this paper is to investigate to which extend two promising speci cations, USDL and TOSCA, can be integrated to automate the lifecycle of cloud applications. We are able to fully automatize the remote deployment of a cloud service after it was selected by a customer in a marketplace. Architectural decisions emerged during the construction of the platform and were related to global service identi cation and access, multi-layer routing, and dynamic binding.

Policy-Framework for TOSCA published

In “Policy4TOSCA: A Policy-Aware Cloud Service Provisioning Approach to Enable Secure Cloud Computing” we demonstrate how non-functional requirements are defined in TOSCA using policies. We propose a mechanism for automatic processing of these formal policy definitions in a TOSCA runtime environment that we have developed based on the proposed architecture of the TOSCA primer. In order to evaluate our approach, we present prototypical implementations of security policies for encrypting databases and for limiting the geographical location of the Cloud servers. We demonstrate how our runtime environment is ensuring these policies and show how they affect the deployment of the application.

First public draft of TOSCA Primer available

The OASIS TOSCA Technical Committee recently published a first public draft of the TOSCA Primer. The document provides an introduction to the Topology and Orchestration Specification for Cloud Applications (TOSCA) and describes by means of concrete examples how different roles involved in the development of cloud applications can leverage the TOSCA standard to build portable definitions of their applications.

The current draft of the primer is available at the following location:

BPMN4TOSCA: A Domain-Specific Language to Model Management Plans for Composite Applications

BPMN4TOSCA is an extension of BPMN 2.0. It allows accessing the element sof a service topology directly, which in turn eases the development of management plans.
